5-day M'goun trek

Day 1: Transfer from Marrakech to the Central High Atlas (Ait Bougmmez valley 1800m)

After breakfast in Marrakech, our journey will commence, and it will take approximately two hours to reach the Ouzoud waterfalls or the foot of the central High Atlas. From there, our adventure continues towards the town of Azilal, where we will pause for a delightful lunch. Following our meal, we'll venture onward to the Aghbar pass, situated at an elevation of 2200 meters. Here, we'll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the M'goun massif, the Ait Abbas valley, and numerous peaks soaring over 3000 meters. As the day progresses, we'll descend into the picturesque Ait Bougmmez valley, also known as "the happy valley," ultimately arriving at our designated bivouac site at Ikkis N Aarous, situated at an altitude of 2300 meters. This final leg of our journey involves a 2-hour and 30-minute hike. (Over the day: 5h drive by tourist transport and approx. 2h walk, level: medium).

Day 2 :IkkisN-Aarous (2400m), Aghri pass(3400m), Tarkeddit plateau(2996m)

After breakfast, we embark on our journey by ascending to the Aghri pass. En route, we may encounter sheepfolds and, if we're fortunate, during the summer months, we might catch sight of camels belonging to nomadic families from the Ait Atta tribe. After about 3 hours of trekking, we'll arrive at the Aghri pass, offering us another opportunity to admire the summit of Mount Mgoun, the highest peak in the central High Atlas. Following this, we'll descend for approximately 2 hours to the Tarkeddit plateau, where our cook awaits us with an outdoor picnic. This plateau will also serve as the location for our bivouac setup. The afternoon will be a time for relaxation, with options for a siesta or short walks for those still brimming with energy. Throughout the day, we anticipate approximately 5 hours of walking, with a medium level of difficulty.

Day 3 : Tarkeddit plateau (1996m)-M'Goun (4068m)-Iggli n'ntout 2000m

This day will indeed be the most demanding of our trek, but participation in the ascent is optional. For those who opt out, they can follow the muleteers' path directly to the bivouac site, which takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes on foot.

For those undertaking the ascent, we recommend an early departure at dawn. Before setting off, it's crucial to ensure each person carries at least a liter and a half of water. Technical equipment for the ascent is also advised, as temperatures can drop unexpectedly, even in summer. Items such as gloves, a hat, a warm coat, and walking sticks are recommended, especially for the descent.

The trek will commence with a gentle gradient for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, followed by a more challenging, rocky climb lasting approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along this route, you may encounter fossils embedded in the rocks. As we reach the ridge, we'll be treated to glimpses of the highest peaks of the High Atlas, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Upon reaching the summit of Mount Mgoun, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch from our rucksacks while reveling in the breathtaking panoramic views of the High Atlas peaks, the Valley of the Roses, and the Saghrou massif.

Afterward, we'll commence the descent, which takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, leading us to our bivouac site at the Iggli n Ntout plateau. There, we'll unwind and indulge in a well-deserved cup of green mint tea, reflecting on the day's accomplishments.

Throughout this demanding day, participants can anticipate approximately 8 hours of walking, with a strong level of difficulty.

Day 4: Oulilimt  2800m- Tizi n'ait Imi pass (2905m)- Ait Imi  (2000m)

After breakfast, we start our walk with a short descent on a path where we can see nomads with their herds of goats and dromedaries. We then climb up to the Tizi n'Ait Imi pass (2905 m), where we have lunch and enjoy the panoramic view over the Ait Bougumez valley, which we passed through on the first day of the trek. We then descend to the village of Ait Imi (2000 m), where we can see sheepfolds and the Imi villagers who use the spring to irrigate their fields. Overnight in a local gite

(Over the day: approx. 5 hrs 30 mins walk, level: medium).

Day 5 : back to Marrakech

We'll pass through the ait bouwlli red valley and stop at Imi n'Ifri to visit a natural site (the Imi nifri natural bridge) before discovering the iouaridn dinosaur tracks. Lunch on site before heading to the red city of Marrakech (5h drive).
